DIY: How to BLACK OUT rear emblems w/ Plastidip

I've been meaning to post this up for a while now, just haven't had the time to do it.... so now that I have a flu, and I wake up at the most random times... I figured I'd do it now... than never.

You can pick up a can of plastidip from the paint department of any home building store (Lowes, Home Depot, etc.)

In case you don't know what plastidip is... it's rubberized paint originally used to coat the grip of tools, until it was made in a spray form and fell into the hands of a car guy... and well the possibilities are endless. This stuff will peal off on demand with no issues as long as the coats are thick enough.

Sorry for the cell phone quality pics.
    Here's the steps:

So you spray it right on the paint and it peels right off?

    Great write up!

What did you use behind the actual letters? The same masking paper? I ask, because it looks different when your peeling it in the 7th picture...

Also, are you able to apply clear coat to this pastidip for the shine?

    Thanks and great job.

There is no tape/paper behind the letters. Plasti-Dip just peels off.

do you have to cut around the letters before peeling?

nope it brakes on edges so it will just peel right off leaving the dip on the emblems

Thanks, I actually understood how it all works right after posting my reply.

It's definitely a great idea especially when you are leasing a car.

Now the rims with PlastiDip is a tempting thing to do.

As I have understood, the more coats you do the better and easier it is going to be for you to take off the extra's for final result.
